Wine Storage

The proper way to store wine depends on the type of wine and whether it is still or sparkling. Here are some general guidelines:

1. Temperature: Wine should be stored at a consistent temperature between 45-65°F (7-18°C). Avoid extreme temperature fluctuations, as they can damage the wine.

2. Humidity: Wine should be stored in a humid environment, ideally between 50-80% humidity. This helps prevent the corks from drying out and causing oxidation.

3. Light: Wine should be kept away from direct sunlight and strong artificial light, as they can degrade the wine and cause it to age prematurely.

4. Position: Wine bottles with cork closures should be stored horizontally to keep the cork moist and prevent it from drying out. Screw cap or synthetic cork closures can be stored upright.

5. Vibration: Wine should be kept in a location with minimal vibration, as excessive movement can disturb the sediment and affect the wine's flavor.

6. Odors: Wine can absorb odors, so it's important to store it away from strong-smelling substances like cleaning products or spices.

7. Still Wine: For still wine, it is best to store it in a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature. A wine cellar, basement, or dedicated wine refrigerator are ideal storage options.

8. Sparkling Wine: Sparkling wine should be stored similarly to still wine, but with extra care to prevent the cork from popping. It is best to store sparkling wine horizontally and at a slightly lower temperature, around 40-50°F (4-10°C).

Remember, these are general guidelines, and specific wines may have different storage requirements. It's always a good idea to consult the producer's recommendations or seek advice from a wine expert for optimal storage conditions.
